The Reed trench vein is a major structure within the Cadillac–Larder Lake–Kirkland Lake break system that hosts the gold mines between Kirkland Lake and Val d’Or: an east–west quartz vein along a fault, with healed fault breccia and pyritic Fe-carbonate in the fractures.
Location
The Reed trench is about 460 m south-west of the Reed showing, in the Kirkland Lake gold camp of north-eastern Ontario.

Geology
The vein and the fault beside it strike about 080° and dip 85° south. The quartz is 23–38 cm wide where measured. Together these features point to high gold potential:
- another major east–west quartz vein
- healed fault breccia of various compositions, angular to well-rounded
- thin unconsolidated gouge
- favourable wall-rock alteration
- CaMgFe-carbonate and pyrite filling the fractured vein, concentrated in its southern part
About 7 m² of subcrop were exposed by hand-stripping and washing in 2021 and mapped at 1 cm = 0.25 m.
Sampling
Every sample recorded within about 25 m of the showing, from the site’s database:

Grab samples are selected pieces of rock and are not representative; channel samples are cut across the vein or zone. The Reed showing’s cut samples and laboratory certificates are on the Reed showing page.

Geophysics
The 2021 Aerial drone magnetic survey covers the trench, and the 2022 3D IP survey was run over the claims.

Drilling
The Reed trench vein has not been drill-tested. The nearest holes are short (about 35 m) holes drilled in 1984, about 240 m to the south.

History
- 1984 – J. D. Reed (Reed Enterprises) drilled short holes about 240–290 m south of the trench. AFRI 42A01SE0196
- 2021 – Hand-stripped and washed, mapped in detail and channel-sampled across the vein; the Aerial drone magnetic survey was flown the same year. AFRI 20000021754, 20000020517
- 2022 – The vein’s reference points surveyed by GNSS (Surveyors on Site), and a 3D IP survey over the claims. AFRI 20000020817
